The Network - Success as internships are offered

The Network was hosted in partnership with Student Adventures and Angela Mortimer Third Sector last week at the very cool venue of Trafalgar Studios in Whitehall, London. The Network was setup with the aim of bringing our key student partners, Rag Chairs, Adventure Leaders and other student leaders into direct contact with business and the third sector who were on the look out for the best talent from the current crop of young graduates.

The event was centered around Liz Jones from the Training Studio where she took an entertaining and informative look at the job market as it is today, how to get your CV under the nose of the right person and a few sage words for would-be employers in the room!

After this seminar from Liz it was off to network over a beer or glass of wine as young student leaders got to grips with working the room and meeting interested consultants, business and charities from a range of sectors.

Success was had on the night as two students confirmed internship offers with companies present and we're confident that in due course we will see more of our key student partners linked up with roles in industry as a result of The Network!

Choose a Charity - A Huge Success

Choose a Charity - A Huge Success

On Saturday 3rd March Student Adventures in partnership with Nottingham Karnival got together to host the inaugural Choose a Charity event, which saw thirteen Rags and ten charities get together. The aim of Choose a Charity was to give charities the valuable opportunity to ‘pitch’ what they do as a charity to the student leaders, Rag Chairs and Presidents of these fundraising organisations and why it would be great to work together to help the charities further their aims.

We had a diverse group of charities that covered a spectrum of support from international development, medical research, education & awareness and children. It was a real opportunity to bring the less well known to the attention of Rags to engage with each other and the initial feedback seems to be that it has worked.

Ant Scott, outgoing Rag President at Warwick Rag said, “We’ve seen and heard about some amazing charities we would never have thought about supporting before, it has made us re-think about what we can do and who we can support.”

The charities were equally pleased with the outcome, Asthma UK a great charity who are looking to raise funds and awareness for their ‘Big Up Your Chest’ Facebook campaign aimed specifically at University students had 10 minutes to engage these key students and Talia Pobischan said, “I just wanted to say well done for organising a brilliant weekend, it was really good to meet so many RAGs and other charities with a chance to tell them what we do and how they could really make a difference.”

Of course where Rags are involved it’s not all work, after dinner and networking it was off to town to sample the delights of a Karni social and have a good time. We think we succeeded after Mary Perham, Exeter Rag Officer updated her status, “Jock you throw a cracking weekend!”

Thanks go to Barney Cornick and Karnival for all their hard work to help make the event happen and it looks like Choose a Charity was well received and could well become an annual opportunity to bring charities and Rags together to help raise awareness of the causes that can be supported outside the well-branded obvious.

Latest addition to the team

Student Adventures is pleased to welcome their latest member to the team, Tom Bartley. Tom has a long track record in student fundraising from his years volunteering with Rag. He has also recently completed a successful sabbatical post as Manchester Rag's Co-ordinator, whilst gaining a breadth of experience in student fundraising and helped Manchester students to raise in excess of £330,000 for good causes last year.

Tom applied for a paid internship with Student Adventures in the summer to work on the delivery of two of our great adventures, London to Paris Bike Ride and the epic Bratislava or Bust! Having made a valuable contribution to the team and helping the adventures to run smoothly it was a natural fit.

Tom's role as Adventure Leaders Manager is to use his very recent Rag experience to relate to, coach and support our Adventure Leaders all over the country  as they in turn work hand-in-hand with Rags to support and encourage students to take on an incredible adventure in support of our fantastic charity partners.

When asked what inspired Tom to apply for a paid summer internship, he replied, "It seemed like a great opportunity for an interesting summer job, a chance to see new places, and make a difference to charity whilst being part of a dynamic team."

Student Adventures are always on the look out for the next great talent. Check out our careers section to see what's on offer and perhaps begin your budding event management and adventure career as an Adventure Leader. For more information on how chat to Tom.

Student Adventures launches new website

Student Adventures launches new website to continually improve the customer experience for their student adventurers and the support offered to their charity partners.

After many months of garnering feedback from customers, charity partners and unleashing the boffins locked in the cupboard the new look site is the result. Student Adventures holds great stock in continual improvement and innovation and with a series of planned added functionality it is expected that in the long term the site experience will get better and better.

Thanks have to go to Andy and his design team at Blue Splat for coming up with the new look. Also special note of Sparticle Limited and particularly Ash for their hard work in putting the site together with all the technical wizadry in the background. Student Adventures couldn't recommend our technical partners highly enough having worked with them over several years.

Student Adventures prides itself on being responsive to our customers needs and if you have any thoughts, feedback or great ideas to improve the site experience then your suggestions are welcomed - just email info@studentadventures.co.uk and tell us what you think.

So here's to the new site and all who sail in her!
